Drink to health and happiness!

Every day we fill our bodies with food made in factories. When it makes us sick, we pump our bodies with medicines made in factories. We cry and we pray and we search for answers when the drugs make us feel worse. We are tired, fat, uncomfortable and sick! It seems to me that we have missed the opportunity to be healthy and happy because we have been so busy making and searching for things that will make us healthier and happier.

"God" has given us everything we need to thrive and yet very few of us are actually using these gifts. I realize that it is difficult, if not impossible in modern society to live this authentically, but my goal is to work "backwards" until I find a happy and healthy place of living.

I want the satisfaction of knowing that nearly everything i'm putting in my body these days is natural. To lay in my bed at night and know that if I dont feel well, it has nothing to do with food. I've been scouring websites, books, magazines and friends for healthy food/drink ideas. Here's one I've been hooked on!

Homemade Fruit Pops & Smoothies

6 cups chopped fruit (i used one mini watermelon, and a handful of raspberries)
1-2 containers of low-fat yogurt (I used greek)
3 packets of splenda (optional)

Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth. Pour mixture into p

opsicle molds or plastic solo cups and add popsicle sticks if needed. Freeze four hours and enjoy! Blend any remaining mix with ice for yummy, guilt-free smoothies.

Its not wrong, its just not right.

It's been asked innumerable times, and pondered even more. It plagues even the quietest of minds and keeps us guessing for lifetimes. What is my purpose? What am I doing here? I read a friends quote today that asked, " what if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?" I can only assume she had similar feelings as I. My though was that life would be much simpler.
Everyday we wake up too early and listen to tasteless music as we mindlessly drive to jobs that leave us mostly unfulfilled. We fill our voids with toxic food, useless chatter and heaps and heaps of new things. So many of us work to live. We leave our loves and our families to make money. To buy....more....things. Bigger houses, faster cars, expensive clothes. All for what? What is the point?
I am just as lost in this mess as the next. Is it wrong to want more? Or perhaps its not more that I want; perhaps its less. I want to live with a purpose. With a reason. I want to do things for a reason. I'm working on building the bravery to live authentically. I can only imagine what its like to wake up in the morning and feel that my presence on this planet, in this life, is real. I want to plant my bare feet on the earth and feel her pressing right back. I want to breath in fresh air, full of life and hope. I want to smile because im beaming with fulfillment and happiness. When I close my eyes at night, I want to know that I lived that day to the fullest, and sleep a peaceful sleep knowing that everything is okay. What is my purpose? Why am I here? What the heck am I doing this for?

Ear-Flap Hat

With the smell of cold in the air and the inevitable Michigan snow hanging overhead, I figured its a good time to haul out the old crochet needles and get to work. Jay requested a hat with ear flaps and skulls on it. I pulled off the ear flaps, but Im lost on the skulls. I guess he'll have to settle for a softer look until I pick up the "skull skill". p.s. if you want one of your own, they start at $12. any size, color, shape and pattern you want.....except skulls.

fractured heart

I'm not sure which is hardest to dominate; the tears quietly gathering up behind my eyes, the rage lurking deep within my words or the or the eternal urge to turn my back and just leave the nonsense behind me.
My tears would only betray me. They'd only uncover the filthy truth that anger is nothing more than a mask for sadness. There is no true anger at all, just a temporary mask for betrayal, fear, hurt and resentment.
To disimprison the belligerent words that threaten my sanity and plague my thoughts, would only tell lies of me. Those words could break more hearts than just mine. It's ironic to fear telling someone they have hurt us, for worry that we will hurt them! If we all told the truth all the time, would we all be hurt and alone, or would we all be happy together?
What solution could possibly be attained by turning my back on the things that hurt me? The true pain after all, is really a desire for love and respect. So if I turn my back on the things that continue to cause me pain, I'm not only cutting off the pain, but also any hope for change. In the end that seems more of a tragedy than the hurt itself.
Is it more painful to linger where toxic relationships have the capacity to fracture my heart and my hopes, or to hide some other place and never know what may have been? If I've nothing to gain from tears, anger or oblivion, where is my path to salvation?

Blow the doors off this thing!

What am I really supposed to do? Should I scream at the top of my lungs like a wild, raging banshee? Maybe I should do just exactly as my emotions demand and throw my hands in the air, and yelp & cry with desperation at my overwhelming irritation and disgust! Certainly that's not the lady-like thing to do. Certainly a lady would never dream of acting in such a manner. I'll just smile politely as I portray a sense of deliberate calm and do my best to maintain peace with those who cause my irritation. What a mind blowing environment of inequality and judgment we live in, that a person can be so entrenched in their societal role, that they have ignored their "God-given" right to demand their own happiness and contentment! Is it right that a mother lose her sense of self to provide for the betterment of her children? Is it right for a woman to maintain calm and collected in times of stress, so her husband doesn't blow a fuse? Is it right for a person to do as they are told simply because they were told it was the right thing to do. Or.......do we have it all wrong? Perhaps the mother who lost her sense of self for her child, has lost her ability to give her child the best. Perhaps the woman maintaining her fake smile has robbed herself and her husband the chance to learn and grow. Maybe doing what we have been told isn't always the right thing to do? I don't know. Does anyone know? Will anyone ever know? What I DO know, is the choking feeling of words caught in my throat. I do know that there is only just so much space for storing all my pent up feelings. I have the option of finding a new place for some of my thoughts and feelings, or packing in more and more, until one day the door blows off and they all come flying out. But where is the resolution? For the love!......where is the resolution?
